Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Cape Town’s deep south have been advised to boil their tap water before drinking it, after tests found that it was below national quality standards.<\/p>\n

The City of Cape Town said it would investigate the cause of the poor quality of the water.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, the City said residents of Noordhoek, Redhill, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Scarborough, Masiphumelele and Glencairn should boil tap water before drinking it or using it to wash fruit and vegetables intended for raw consumption.<\/p>\n

This after routine sampling results showed the water quality did not comply with national water quality standards (SANS 241), according to the City.<\/p>\n

The City said: “Investigations are under way to determine the cause and the affected pipelines are being flushed and disinfected.”<\/p>\n

The City advised residents to boil the water for at least one minute and allow it to cool naturally.<\/p>\n

Those who are not able to boil their water should mix one teaspoon of unperfumed household bleach in 20 to 25 litres of water and let it stand for at least two hours before using it.<\/p>\n

“Further testing will be conducted by the City to ensure the highest and safest quality water is in circulation,” the City said.<\/p>\n
