Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Three-year-old Olunje Bolisi was axed to death, allegedly by a relative, and the boy’s father says he’s battling to come to terms with the loss.<\/p>\n

The father, Simlindile Pikwa, who stays in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, had dropped the child off at the Covid-19 informal settlement in Mfuleni as they were on their way to a funeral in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old father said the grandmother, who was looking after the toddler, forgot him on a bed at a relative’s place.<\/p>\n

It is alleged the grandmother’s ex-boyfriend, who she had a protection order against, told the cops that she and the relative killed Olunje.<\/p>\n

Pikwa explained that, when he arrived at the scene, the child had already been taken by forensic officers.<\/p>\n

“I am shocked. I am battling to come to terms with this loss,” he said.<\/p>\n

Pikwa said Olunje was the third of his four children.<\/p>\n

He said:<\/p>\n

Police said the circumstances surrounding the murder were still under investigation.<\/p>\n

However, they confirmed that a 50-year-old was arrested in connection with the murder and would appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once he was charged.<\/p>\n

Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the family on Monday and said he did not want to divulge any details of the killing.<\/p>\n

“This was someone that the family had trusted and was close to the family who did something like this.<\/p>\n

“Although an arrest has been made, it doesn’t take away the pain of this family,” he said.<\/p>\n

Pikwa said the body of the toddler would be transported to the Eastern Cape for burial.<\/p>\n
