Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Western Cape police have arrested a second suspect after six people were gunned down inside a home in Ocean View, Cape Town, a week ago.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said a 29-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on murder charges.<\/p>\n

A 20-year-old man was also arrested last week.<\/p>\n

The pair appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the magistrate had struck the matter off the roll after a legal representative of one of the accused protested that they had not been brought before court within 48 hours.<\/p>\n

Brigadier Novela Potelwa previously said reports from the scene indicated a vehicle had pulled up in front of a house on Neptune Lane at approximately 10:50.<\/p>\n

“The occupants of the vehicle went inside the house and started shooting at individuals inside the premises,” she added.<\/p>\n

“Five men between the ages of 20 and 50 were, as a result, killed while a sixth person who was transported to a medical facility after sustaining gunshot wounds was confirmed as having died upon arrival in hospital.”<\/p>\n

Ocean View community policing forum chairperson Mansoer Ismail said the area was “very tense”.<\/p>\n

“The CPF can confirm that three of the men killed were gangsters from Hanover Park. The other three men killed are residents of Ocean View. So this murder has been really devastating to the community. It is heartbreaking that the killings took place right on our doorstep.”<\/p>\n

Ismail added that there was “uncertainty” about why the victims were in the area at the time.<\/p>\n

“Yes, the murders are gang-related, but we cannot say for sure what specifically they were killed for. Residents are fearful that there might be gang retaliation this weekend at the funerals. We understand that local police will be patrolling the area to ensure everything goes off smoothly.”<\/p>\n

The CPF said that two of the six victims were buried last week according to Muslim rites.<\/p>\n
