Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>It’s probably not a good idea to fake or alter a sick note for time off from work, as a North West police officer discovered this week, at least according to allegations before the Setlagole Magistrate’s Court.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old North West officer ended up in court after he allegedly extended a sick note by one day in May.<\/p>\n

Sergeant Kagiso Motlele, who is stationed at the Madibogo police station, was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone the sick note aroused his station commander’s suspicions.<\/p>\n

“The matter was reported to the provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit for investigation, which confirmed that the accused altered the sick note and failed to report [for] duty. According to information, the medical practitioner permitted him to stay home for three days to get fit for work, but he fraudulently extended the leave by a day,” Mokgwabone said.<\/p>\n

The officer was released on a warning and is expected to appear in the Atamelang Magistrate’s Court on 7 July.<\/p>\n
