Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A former employee of a veterinary clinic in Humansdorp appeared in court on Tuesday in connection with the theft of more than R3 million.<\/p>\n

Lana Nell, 45, was arrested by the Hawks’ Gqeberha-based Serious Commercial Crimes Investigation Unit on charges of fraud, alternatively theft.<\/p>\n

The Hawks’ Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said R3.5 million was allegedly transferred from the facility into Nell’s account over a period of five years.<\/p>\n

The transactions were allegedly made during the period between January 2018 and February 2023, when Nell was an employee working in the financial department of the clinic.<\/p>\n

“Theft was suspected when one of the suppliers complained about a late payment. The matter was then reported to the Hawks for probing in February 2023,” Mgolodela said.<\/p>\n

Nell remains in custody and a formal bail application will commence on 26 June.<\/p>\n
