But on Wednesday, after more witness statements were obtained and police completed their investigation, Natasha van Eck was back in the dock of the Kariega Magistrate’s Court, where the murder trial was set down for trial in October.<\/p>\n

She is accused of killing her husband during an argument on their farm in Kariega in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro in November last year<\/p>\n

Van Eck was arrested on 13 November, shortly after she allegedly shot her husband, Gideon, on their farm, Bakenkop.<\/p>\n

But, according to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, the case wasn’t enrolled in November because there was insufficient evidence against Van Eck.<\/p>\n

Tyali said:<\/p>\n

After the State decided to prosecute Van Eck, she was warned to appear in court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The case was postponed to 10 October for trial.<\/p>\n

Family members said the Van Eck couple had a long history of arguments and that they had to intervene many times.<\/p>\n

But Van Eck told police that she had acted in self-defence.<\/p>\n

Family spokesperson Charl Posthumus did not comment on the fact that Van Eck was not in custody.<\/p>\n

“The family is pleased with the date,” Posthumus said.<\/p>\n
