Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The statutory rape case against an ANC ward councillor was postponed by the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday for further investigation.<\/p>\n

The man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act, appeared in the dock on Friday when his case was postponed to 24 August.<\/p>\n

The Matlosana Local Municipality councillor is facing 11 charges, including multiple counts of statutory rape, manufacturing pornographic material and rape.<\/p>\n

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame said his victims were 15 and 17.<\/p>\n

He added there was a possibility for additional charges being added after the investigation.<\/p>\n

North West police arrested the councillor in May after sexually explicit videos and photos surfaced on social media platforms.<\/p>\n

The ANC had received several complaints against the councillor from various women.<\/p>\n

ANC spokesperson Tumelo Maruping said in a statement:<\/p>\n

Maruping added the suspension would be in effect until the outcome of a disciplinary process.<\/p>\n

“This type of behaviour goes against our values and commitment to building a cohesive society where everyone is treated with respect and dignity.<\/p>\n

“We will, therefore, not stand idle when such tendencies rear their ugly face. We will act immediately and swiftly to root out such behaviour.”<\/p>\n

Mamothame said the councillor will remain in custody until his next court appearance.<\/p>\n
