Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Port of Richards Bay has fully reopened after operations resumed on Friday night, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The activity resumed following “the lifting of a notice to comply with the clearing of waste tyres and a stockpile of mineral bulk waste within the terminals\u2019 premises,” the Richards Bay Terminals – a division of TPT – said in a statement on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

As reported by News24, The Port of Richards Bay had been partially shut down on Friday after the Transnet National Ports Authority (TPNA) issued the terminal operator, Richards Bay Terminals, with a “Non-Compliance Stop Work Certificate” over “environmental management issues”.<\/p>\n

Richards Bay Terminals said the resumption of activities comes after it presented an implementation plan to the Ports Authority and some of the environmental management commitments contained in the plan are already in progress.<\/p>\n

The partial closure of the port had caused chaos on the roads in and out of Richards Bay which are already under immense strain from the increased number of trucks carrying coal to the port as a result of high export prices and Transnet’s deteriorated railing performance.<\/p>\n

\u2014 TrafficSA (@TrafficSA) July 15, 2023″Transporters are still urged to hold back further dispatching of trucks until further communication, and to make use of the mandatory truck booking system to ensure that trucks do not call the terminals at the same time,” Richards Bay Terminals said on Saturday.<\/p>\n

“[We] would like to apologise to all stakeholders for the inconvenience the temporary closure has caused. We are grateful for the partnership and understanding that customers have demonstrated during this time.”<\/p>\n
