Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for about 15 armed cash-in-transit robbers who crashed into a cash van, shot at security guards and later torched the car they had used to derail the van before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.<\/p>\n

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the heist happened on Monday morning next to Emfuleni Park in Kanyamazane, outside Mbombela.<\/p>\n

“According to a report, an armoured vehicle transporting cash was travelling along Legogota Road in Kanyamazane, being driven by security guards. It is reported that a white Mercedes-Benz occupied by suspects emerged and collided head-on with the armoured vehicle, forcing it to overturn,” Mohlala said.<\/p>\n

About 15 armed men started firing shots at the cash van before instructing the security guards to open the vehicle’s door.<\/p>\n

“The guards were reportedly robbed of their firearms \u2013 a rifle and a pistol. It is further alleged that explosives were detonated by the suspects and [they] got hold of cash from the armoured vehicle.”<\/p>\n

He said two security guards were injured in the collision and are receiving medical treatment.<\/p>\n

The robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in two white Ford Rangers, Mohlala said.<\/p>\n

“The Mercedes-Benz used to derail the cash van was reportedly torched by the suspects before they fled.”<\/p>\n
