Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Truckloads of counterfeit goods, with an estimated street value of more than R100 million, were transported from a shopping complex in Bellville, Cape Town, following a takedown operation on Friday.<\/p>\n

Four people were arrested.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Colonel Andre\u0300 Traut said the operation was led by the police, customs and excise, and brand protectors.<\/p>\n

“At around 10:00, the multidisciplinary team executed a search warrant after a thorough investigation. The end-product of the operation saw truckloads of counterfeit goods comprising an assortment of famous brands as well as illicit tobacco products being transported to a depot as exhibits in contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.<\/p>\n

“The value of the seizure is hard to determine at this premature stage. A fair estimate will go beyond R100 million.<\/p>\n

“As our investigation unfolds, more arrests could be effected, said Traut.<\/p>\n

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile warned those who make a lucrative living from selling inferior goods, which impacted the economy, to reconsider their actions because police were planning similar operations in the future.<\/p>\n
