Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A Pretoria woman who killed her boyfriend after she found out that he had another girlfriend and two children, has been jailed for life.<\/p>\n

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria sentenced 36-year-old Mooikloof Ridge woman, Ramatsela Ramushu, on Thursday for the murder of Mthetheleli Gwanya.<\/p>\n

She was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for defeating the ends of justice.<\/p>\n

According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, a week after Ramushu found out about Gwanya’s family, she invited him to her home.<\/p>\n

“On the morning of 31 April 2021, Ramushu prepared breakfast for the two of them and poured sleeping pills in the deceased’s drink. The deceased became drowsy, and it was at that point that Ramushu handcuffed him, poured boiling water on him, and assaulted him several times …” Mahanjana said.<\/p>\n

She used an axe to kill him, wrapped his body in a blanket and left it in her garage. poured boiling water on him, and assaulted him several times.<\/p>\n

Ramushu then tried to kill herself by drinking petrol.<\/p>\n

Metro police found her unconscious in Gwanya’s car in Garsfontein Road.<\/p>\n

She was taken to Steve Biko Academic Hospital.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Gwanya’s long term-girlfriend filed a missing person’s report at the Boschkop police station.<\/p>\n

Mahanjana said:<\/p>\n

She was arrested on the same day at the hospital.<\/p>\n

During the trial, she pleaded not guilty and told the court that the incident was an accident.<\/p>\n

During evidence in mitigation of her sentence, she read out a letter apologising to Gwanya’s family and her family.<\/p>\n

Through her legal representative, she asked the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence.<\/p>\n

“However, prosecutor, advocate Andre\u0301 Wilsenach, told the court that life imprisonment was the appropriate sentence because Ramushu showed no true remorse for her actions and did not tell the court why she committed the offence. Moreover, Ramushu gave the court a lot of untruthful evidence,” Mahanjana said.<\/p>\n

The court found that Ramushu had no respect for the right to life and said Gwanya had died a painful death, and that his children would grow up without a father.<\/p>\n

“The judge said he found that there were no substantial and compelling circumstances to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence and found that Ramushu was a pathetic liar who did not take responsibility for her actions,” Mahanjana said.<\/p>\n
