Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Western Cape police are hunting for gunmen who shot dead an off-duty police officer and left another cop seriously wounded in Eland Street, Philippi, on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said both were constables stationed at Bishop Lavis Police Station.<\/p>\n

“Circumstances surrounding the death of the 37-year-old and the critical injuries sustained by the 33-year-old policemen are being probed by the Hawks,” said Pojie.<\/p>\n

Community WhatsApp groups said the officers were in a car when the unknown gunmen opened fire on them.<\/p>\n

A murder and attempted murder docket has been opened for further investigation, Pojie added.<\/p>\n

Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonal Siyabulela Vukubi said no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n

“The investigation is underway; no arrest yet,” said Vukubi.<\/p>\n
