Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Diesel prices are expected to increase sharply for the fourth consecutive month when the fuel prices are adjusted next week. Meanwhile, petrol and illuminating paraffin prices will be hiked for the third month running.<\/p>\n

Unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund shows diesel is set to increase by approximately R1.60\/litre, while petrol is expected to increase by between 75c\/l and 80c\/l, depending on the grade.<\/p>\n

Illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by more R1.50\/l.<\/p>\n

The current hikes are mainly linked to rising international oil prices, with the price of Brent crude oil breaching $90 per barrel this month for the first time since October last year. The CEF\u2019s recent data showed that in the case of petrol, up to 80% of the increase can be attributed to higher oil prices while these prices are responsible for up to 86% of the expected climb to the price of diesel, the AA previously said.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the expected fuel price increases, the Automobile Association (AA) expressed concern. “These increases are going to hit all consumers hard, and they come at a time when most South Africans are feeling extreme financial pressure,” it said.<\/p>\n
