Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>An altercation in Jabulani Mall in Soweto left a man dead after he allegedly refused to give way to a security guard who was loading money into an ATM.<\/p>\n

The incident happened on Wednesday and the security guard was arrested and charged with murder.<\/p>\n

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the security guard asked people queueing at the ATM to make way for him.<\/p>\n

“One of them refused, and this led to a scuffle between the two. In the process, the trigger of the firearm was pulled, and the bullet hit the patron,” said Nevhuhulwi.<\/p>\n

The police spokesperson said:<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old security officer is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of murder.<\/p>\n

Nevhuhulwi said there was no indication of a robbery.<\/p>\n

The incident comes amid a deadly week of cash-in-transit heists, which claimed the lives of four people.<\/p>\n

Among the dead were two KwaZulu-Natal security guards. Another four security guards were injured in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n

In a heist in the Eastern Cape, a driver and suspected robber were shot dead.<\/p>\n

According to the latest quarterly crime stats, there were 60 cash-in-transit heists between April and June this year. Of those, 14 took place in the Eastern Cape, and 13 took place in KwaZulu-Natal \u2013 the two provinces that have the highest number of CIT heists.<\/p>\n

Statistics from the Cash-In-Transit Association of SA (Citasa) indicate that there were more than 200 CIT robberies across the country between January and August.<\/p>\n

Thirteen law enforcement officers and security guards were killed in the line of duty (excluding police officers) between April and June.<\/p>\n

There were 118 attempted murders of law enforcement officers and security guards in the three-month period.<\/p>\n
