Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Mamelodi Sundowns\u2019 coach Rhulani Mokwena issued a stern warning to teams in the DStv Premiership after losing the MTN8 final to Orlando Pirates on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium.<\/p>\n

The Brazilians were strong favourites to win the final as they have been dominant in the league, and Pirates came into this match in a slump, struggling for goals and facing disappointment in their last four matches.<\/p>\n

But the Buccaneers stunned Sundowns to defend the trophy they won last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis team always tries its level best to win,\u201d said Mokwena. \u201cWe are Sundowns. We will bounce back. We will bounce back. It\u2019s a difficult one to swallow. But we will bounce back. We will be back!\u201d<\/p>\n

The last time Sundowns were hurt by Pirates, in the semi-finals of the MTN8 last season, they picked themselves up and won all the 20 matches that remained in the DStv Premiership to win the championship for a record sixth time in a row.<\/p>\n

In the 48 matches that Mokwena has been in charge of Sundowns as the sole head coach, the club has only lost twice \u2013 to Stellenbosch in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup and to Pirates on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The defeat stung Mokwena, who tried very hard to bite his tongue and not blame the referee for the loss with two penalty decisions that the club felt should have gone their way.<\/p>\n

Despite both teams putting pressure on the referee leading up to the final, for the most part, Abongile Tom handled the match well, asserting his control in an emotional match and allowing the game to flow.<\/p>\n

In one of the decisions that Sundowns felt aggrieved, replays showed Tom seemed to have made the right call as Peter Shalulile impeded Sipho Chaine before the Pirates\u2019 goalkeeper cluttered Lebohang Maboe in the box.<\/p>\n

Sundowns\u2019 loss is essentially down to the team not taking their chances. The Brazilians created more clear-cut chances and Marcelo Allende had an opportunity to wrap up the match in 90 minutes, but missed a glorious chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe let our supporters down,\u201d Mokwena said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe let the football club down. For sure, we feel it. We apologise for that, but we march on. The universe has no budget for pity parties.<\/p>\n

“There is no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we have to pick ourselves up and be strong. We\u2019ve got a lot of trophies to play for, and a lot of games to win. We will bounce back!\u201d<\/p>\n
