{"id":6241,"date":"2021-03-12T22:28:34","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T22:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/?p=6241"},"modified":"2021-03-12T18:27:46","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T18:27:46","slug":"modise-masondo-pay-tribute-to-king-zwelithini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/modise-masondo-pay-tribute-to-king-zwelithini","title":{"rendered":"Modise, Masondo pay tribute to King Zwelithini"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\">South-Africa<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Town &#8211; Speaker Thandi Modise and National Council of Provinces chairperson Amos Masondo say they have been shocked by the death of King Goodwill Zwelithini on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The presiding officers said he has over the last decades led the Zulu with dignity.<\/p>\n<p>Modise and Masondo said he was a key figure in the country\u2019s political transformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKing Zwelithini has led the Zulu people successfully with honour and principle since the death of his father, Cyprian Bhekuzulu Nyangayezizwe kaSolomon in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis death is a terrible loss not only to the Zulu nation but to the entire South African population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the longest serving monarch of the Zulu nation, His Majesty the King held a special place in the history of our political transformation and the post liberation programme,&#8221; said Modise and Masondo.<\/p>\n<p>They said the king died at the time the country was in the middle of a battle against the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The virus has led to the loss of life and economic devastation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe king passes on at a crucial time when the nation is engaged in a fierce battle against the pandemic, economic ruin, loss of life and livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will miss his influence, insight, wise counsel, principled and exemplary leadership which have for many years anchored the kingdom and shaped our history as a nation,&#8221; said the presiding officers.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker and NCOP chairperson have joined a number of political parties who have been paying tribute to the king.<\/p>\n<p><b>Political Bureau<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa.
