Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has warned the country\u2019s middle class that there will be anarchy if conditions don’t improve for the over 37 million of the population that lives in poverty.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the EFF hosted a manifesto town hall meeting in Midrand.<\/p>\n

EFF leader Julius Malema says the current trend of inequality in the country is unsustainable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnarchy is the highest form of disorder and when that anarchy erupts in South Africa, anyone who owns BMW\u2019s, Mercedes or anything of that sort will not enter the township because anybody who has got an asset – which suggests you are part of the elite – which has betrayed the revolution you are going to be a target for assault.\u201d<\/p>\n

SOUTH AFRICA’S INEQUALITY REMAINS PRONOUNCED<\/p>\n

Recent data from the World Bank reveals that South Africa has the highest income inequality in the world, with a Gini coefficient of around 0.67.<\/p>\n

The Gini coefficient is statistical measure of how income is distributed to the population of a country. It takes a value between 0 and 1.<\/p>\n

A coefficient of 1 indicates perfect inequality \u2013 where one individual in a country would earn all the income in that country.<\/p>\n

Contrariwise, a coefficient of 0 is an indicator of perfect equality<\/p>\n

[WATCH] Julius Malema, EFF leader, was asked by a voter whether he is in politics to \u201cfinance his lifestyle\u201d<\/p>\n

Malema gave a 15-minute answer explaining how he got his wealth and that he has been in politics for a long time fighting for pro-poor issues.<\/p>\n
