Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The pact says while the African National Congress government has offered social relief to South Africans, it\u2019s simply not enough to adequately assist destitute families.<\/p>\n

With 47% of South Africans relying on social grants – the Multi-Party Charter has outlined its plan to improve social relief and bring an end to poverty should it govern.<\/p>\n

The charter \u2013 comprising 11 parties including the Democratic Alliance, Action SA and Inkatha Freedom Party \u2013 has vowed to increase social grants above the poverty line.<\/p>\n

The pact says while the African National Congress government has offered social relief to South Africans, it\u2019s simply not enough to adequately assist destitute families.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a media briefing outside the South African Social Security Agency\u2019s offices in Benoni on Wednesday, DA leader John Steenhuisen said the pact will restructure the grant system.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat has the ANC done wrong? They\u2019ve never lifted these grants up to the point where they\u2019re above the food poverty line to actually have the intended consequence. What do they spend the money on? R8 billion on VIP protection for Cabinet ministers.\u201d<\/p>\n
