Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>NSFAS administrator, Freeman Nomvalo, has assured beneficiaries that the changes taking place will not affect the payment of student allowances.<\/p>\n

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) said that it would implement a new payment system for beneficiaries that would take effect in September.<\/p>\n

This after the NSFAS filed papers with the court to terminate contracts with the current direct payment service providers.<\/p>\n

The scheme’s newly appointed administrator, Freeman Nomvalo, gave an update on progress in the organisation since it was placed under administration last month.<\/p>\n

Nomvalo has assured beneficiaries that the changes taking place would not affect the payment of student allowances.<\/p>\n

He said the NSFAS was in agreement with universities and colleges to pay student allowances directly from the institution until the end of July.<\/p>\n

“We are in conversations with universities so that the process continues smoothly and to the extent possible to avoid further challenges to the 2024 financial year,” Nomvalo said.<\/p>\n

Nomvalo said this was part of the plan to implement the Werksman report that suggested the termination of the contracts.<\/p>\n

He said the NSFAS, in collaboration with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), is also carrying out disciplinary processes against some employees within the funding scheme.<\/p>\n

Nomvalo said he could not provide more details on the process as it was currently a legal matter.<\/p>\n
