Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Steenhuisen joined other DA leaders in conducting oversight visits at voting stations in Gauteng and the Western Cape on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has lauded the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) for the smooth running of the special votes over the past two days but said the real test will be during the national elections on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Steenhuisen joined other DA leaders in conducting oversight visits at voting stations in Gauteng and the Western Cape.<\/p>\n

During one of his visits to a polling station in Mitchells Plain, Steenhuisen lauded the IEC for its efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been liaising with the IEC over the course of the last two months. We found them very receptive to ideas, to criticism, to being able to take on board suggestions, and we hope that these are going to be implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steenhuisen said it\u2019s important to have faith in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IEC, I think, have learnt a lot of lessons from 2021 when there were some shambolic scenes, and we\u2019re hoping that there were lessons learnt from that and it\u2019s carried forward into election day.\u201d<\/p>\n
