Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>These are the very first elections the newly-formed MK Party has contested and it\u2019s arrived with a bang, taking a significant lead in the KZN provincial ballot early on.<\/p>\n

The Inkatha Freedom Party’s (IFP) Tobias Gumede has attributed the MK Party\u2019s early successes in KwaZulu-Natal in these elections to widespread frustrations with the current status quo but doesn\u2019t expect its current lead to last.<\/p>\n

These are the very first elections the newly formed MK Party has contested, and it\u2019s arrived with a bang, taking a significant lead in the KZN provincial ballot early on.<\/p>\n

The province is traditionally an African National Congress (ANC) and IFP stronghold and Eyewitness News spoke to Gumede about his views around the new kid on the block\u2019s performance so far on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Currently, the IFP is third in line after the ANC, but Gumede is adamant that they\u2019ll come out on top in the end.<\/p>\n

He said that they were still waiting for the results from eThekwini, in particular, and some of their strongholds, he said, had not been captured yet.<\/p>\n

Gumede said it was evidence of the frustrations of the people of KZN.<\/p>\n

“When people are frustrated, they\u2019ll opt for a new thing and think they\u2019ll get something different. But I’m telling you, this is not what\u2019s going to happen here, it\u2019s going to change soon.”<\/p>\n

Whether or not it will, remains to be seen. But with the ANC and the IFP both sitting with around half the number of votes the MK Party has at the moment, as its closest rivals, it\u2019s going to take a massive surge.<\/p>\n
