Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>With 75% of the vote now captured, a result for the province looks certain by the end of the day.<\/p>\n

With the vote capture in the Western Cape heading into the final straight, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has crossed the threshold for a majority government.<\/p>\n

It’s currently performing on par with its 2019 result, with 55% of the vote so far.<\/p>\n

With big voting districts in the metro still to capture, the African National Congress (ANC) is hoping this will push it up from a paltry 18%.<\/p>\n

But the Patriotic Alliance (PA) is making steady inroads, still running in third with nine percent.<\/p>\n

DA provincial leader Tertuis Simmers is breathing a sigh of relief that their goal is now well within reach.<\/p>\n

“South Africa deserves a government that serves its people and in the Western Cape, they have a government that serves their people.”<\/p>\n

And while the DA says it\u2019s snatched votes from the Patriotic Alliance outside of the metro, the PA’s Cape Metro secretary, Cheslyn Steenberg, is confident its performance will be enough for its first seats in the Western Cape legislature.<\/p>\n

“We are not like the ANC that smiles with them and eats with them, we are there to hold them accountable, to ensure services and budgets are allocated to the neediest of the needy.”<\/p>\n

With 75% of the vote now captured, a result for the province looks certain by the end of the day.<\/p>\n
