Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The National Joint Operation and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) held a media briefing on Sunday, saying that it was ready to quell any post-election unrest.<\/p>\n

With a number of political parties still aggrieved by the election results, the country’s law enforcement agencies have assured the public that there would not be a repeat of the 2021 July unrest.<\/p>\n

The country’s security cluster said that it had learned lessons from the unrest and was prepared should there be any similar flare-ups.<\/p>\n

The National Joint Operation and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) held a media briefing on Sunday, saying that it was ready to quell any post-election unrest.The uMkhonto weSizwe party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, is leading a contingent of more than 20 parties that want the election results to be declared null and void.<\/p>\n

These parties have alleged wide-ranging irregularities from the Electoral Commission (IEC), which the commission has denied.<\/p>\n

Defence Minister Thandi Modise said that they were yet to pick up any solid intelligence of unrest brewing.<\/p>\n

“July 2021 there were some issues, we arrived a little bit late as defence. I can assure you that was a good lesson, we are not late these days. We get there on time when we are needed, we are prepared.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele said that one MK leader, Visvin Reddy, had already been arrested on charges of inciting public violence.<\/p>\n

He said that police could only act when there was evidence of a potential crime.<\/p>\n
