Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Preparation for negotiations have begun in earnest, with parties already setting up teams to go into talks over possible power-sharing deals.<\/p>\n

Following a poor showing and failure to obtain an outright majority in the 2024 elections, the African National Congress (ANC)’s leadership is expected to meet in a bid to cement its approach to coalitions.<\/p>\n

The party secured 40.1% of the votes, securing 159 seats in Parliament.Preparation for negotiations have begun in earnest, with parties already setting up teams to go into talks over possible power-sharing deals.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the ANC’s national working committee (NWC) will meet ahead of its national executive committee (NEC)’s gathering the following day.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has already announced a team that will be spearheaded by some of its former leaders, as well as Helen Zille and Siviwe Gwarube.<\/p>\n

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), which is a crucial player for most parties in their different scenarios, held its NEC meeting on Sunday.The ANC will discuss and adopt an approach in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, its officials were briefed by its coalition task team, with a government of national unity, a grand coalition with the DA and a minority government being some of the options put on the table.<\/p>\n

The party, which has attempted to set out a framework on how to approach coalitions while expressing great disdain for the idea of power-sharing, will have serious discussions on this on Tuesday and at its NEC on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
