Who is holding them accountable if they are behind closed doors?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they were to come out in the open, however, and work with us, then we will see a decrement in crime in general, because what we see on a daily basis is that the perpetrators of these crimes are let out and free to victimise their victims all over again. There is no guarantee or faith in trusting something you don\u2019t see actively working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anti-GBV activist Mercy Dube said: \u201cAll we know is how often we are let down by government bodies and departments. We need to be able to work hand in hand if we are fighting the same evil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment, it seems only a certain amount of people are exposed to initiatives that are working for them and that stems from not including communities in these programmes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ilitha Labantu spokesperson Siyabulela Monakali said: \u201cWe are concerned that most of these services are not accessible to survivors of gender-based violence from poor and township communities, and as an organisation, we urge for greater collaboration with all stakeholders to help make these services more accessible to survivors in the township and poor communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Department of Community Safety says it has plans currently in process to roll-out initiatives that will include the voices and contribution of local communities and activists.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson Cayla-Ann Murray said: \u201cThe court watching brief unit works behind the scenes, and that is why some organisations might not be familiar with it.
