Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Lavender Hill residents have again protested over electricity tariffs and meter replacements along Prince George Drive.<\/p>\n

The demonstrations during rush hour traffic started this week and again led to disruption on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The road had to be closed earlier on Friday but was later reopened.<\/p>\n

It’s understood the City of Cape Town was scheduled to meet with the community on Friday, over electricity matters that include action against meter tampering.<\/p>\n

The outcome of that engagement is unclear. But earlier, community leader Paul Phillips told Eyewitness News<\/b> residents had met and agreed to continue demonstrating.<\/p>\n

“The insulation of or the upgrade of the current meter systems at the council is unacceptable. There was no clear communication, there was no public participation,” said Phillips.<\/p>\n

The city said it established over 12,000 meters were tampered with, and it’s appealing to residents struggling to pay for electricity to apply for social support or make payment arrangements.<\/p>\n
