Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says it is beginning to get an understanding of why it experienced a massive electoral decline at the 2024 polls.<\/p>\n

The party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) is meeting with its national leadership at the Birchwood Hotel on Monday, to review its poor showing at the recent polls.<\/p>\n

<\/b>
\nThe ANC in the province went from 50% in 2019, dropping to 34% during 2024\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n

Its national leadership spent the weekend reflecting on the outcomes of the elections with its regional leadership and branches across the province.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are from an election that was the most difficult for the ANC to date. Part of what we want to do is to find out what happened and what needs to be done,\u201d said ANC provincial secretary TK Nciza.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think branches of the ANC were very honest about what has happened. They raised a number of issues and part of the issues they raised were issues of service delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n

POOR GOVT PERFORMANCE CITED AS REASON FOR LOSING OUTRIGHT MAJORITY<\/b><\/p>\n

At the same time, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said the party’s branches have identified its poor performance in government as one of the reasons it failed to win an outright majority in Gauteng.<\/p>\n

This come from the party’s PEC post-election report to its national leadership, outlining where they went wrong in the recent elections.<\/p>\n

The report aims to identify reasons why Gauteng voters have lost confidence in the ANC and how the party plans to recover from its electoral setbacks.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media on the sidelines of its national working committee meeting at the Birchwood Hotel on Monday, Mbalula emphasised the need for the ANC to focus on regaining lost ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the main, the issues comrades reflected on first was governance. The questioning of electricity, power cuts, illegal immigrants, and petty crime issues \u2013 so these are the issues that comrades believe have actually affected the ANC’s performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
