Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government is set to launch a Climate Change and Sustainability council, in a bid to handle weather-related events.<\/p>\n

This as the province continues to be rocked by harsh and unpredictable weather conditions, spurred on by climate change.<\/p>\n

Thousands of homes and public infrastructure have been damaged since the 2022 floods that claimed more than 450 people.<\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, thousands of motorists were stranded on the N3 highway which was covered in snow.<\/p>\n

At least two people died from hypothermia.<\/p>\n

\n“In the coming four weeks, I will launch the KwaZulu-Natal Climate Change and Sustainability Council that will create neutral channels for the engagement of a broad array of stakeholders,” said KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.<\/p>\n

Ntuli said a dialogue focusing on how the province is responding to climate change is also in the pipeline.<\/p>\n

“Our Provincial Government will host a Climate Change and Sustainability Dialogue. This will bring all the relevant stakeholders under one roof to emerge with a coordinated provincial response to climate change in the province,” he added.<\/p>\n
