Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The South African Communist Party (SACP) said it has rejected an invitation by the African National Congress (ANC) to commemorate the 100 days of the Government of National Unity (GNU).<\/p>\n

The ANC will on Monday be hosting an event at their headquarters at Luthuli House in Johannesburg, to mark and reflect on the first 100 days of the GNU.<\/p>\n

However, in a media briefing on Sunday, the ANC’s tripartite alliance partner, the SACP, announced that it would be boycotting Monday\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

The SAPC’s central committee has officially adopted a motion to oppose the GNU.<\/p>\n

The party said it could not in good conscience support the ANC getting into bed with right-wing parties like the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Freedom Front Plus.<\/p>\n

SACP secretary-general, Solly Mapaila, said they would not be attending Monday\u2019s event as a matter of principle.<\/p>\n

“We have rejected the invitation, we will not be going. Albeit it\u2019s been laced together with thanking the people who voted for the ANC, for which we were in the campaign, it feels sad but we will not be going.”<\/p>\n

ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to deliver the party\u2019s keynote address on its 100 days in the GNU.<\/p>\n
