Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The African National Congress (ANC) in Mogale City said it wanted the vacant mayoral post in the municipality to be filled by a councillor from its caucus.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor Danny Mathupane resigned as mayor shortly before a motion of no confidence against him could be heard in council.<\/p>\n

<\/b>
\nMathupane was elected to the post 18 months ago with the backing of the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) caucuses.<\/p>\n

ANC regional secretary, Mkhuseli Jokazi, said the coalition had no issue with Mathupane\u2019s performance as mayor. However, it was time for a change.<\/p>\n

“From now on, we are going to be guided by the provincial executive committee as to what is going to happen. Remember, we are working based on the other agreements with municipalities from the City of Johannesburg to Tshwane. Now it’s coming to Mogale, so they\u2019re going to guide us as to what is going to happen. But as a region, we really wish that we can take over the membership as the ANC.”<\/p>\n
