Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was still considering the cutting of all diplomatic ties with Israel and a decision would be taken in due course.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa was responding to questions in the National Assembly on Thursday where the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) again put pressure on the president to take a decision after Parliament passed a resolution last year.<\/p>\n

He said that government\u2019s position on Israel hadn\u2019t changed and support for the Palestinian cause was “irrevocable”.<\/p>\n

EFF leader Julius Malema questioned Ramaphosa\u2019s “reluctance” to take a firm decision on cutting all ties with Israel.<\/p>\n

Last year, the National Assembly adopted a motion calling for South Africa to close the Israeli embassy and to suspend all diplomatic relations with Israel.<\/p>\n

“So, I\u2019m asking, Mr President, as to what is your reluctance because that resolution was taken while you were the president,” Malema said.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa said they had noted the resolution and the matter was being seriously considered.<\/p>\n

“It is a matter being considered in a very active manner and in due course will be able to articulate precisely what the executive’s response is to the resolution that was taken by the National Assembly.”<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa also responded to questions on the United Nations Security Council, saying its shortcomings have had a “disastrous” impact on Africa and the Middle East.<\/p>\n
