Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>n light of budget shortfalls affecting schools nationally, the Western Cape government said it would not implement cuts on school feeding scheme programmes, scholar transport, textbooks, and stationery.<\/p>\n

The provincial Education Department has come under fire after announcing in August that it would be cutting more than 2,400 teacher job cuts from January 2025.<\/p>\n

It added that efforts to explore alternatives to ease the burden on public education were continuing.<\/p>\n

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said the fight to protect teacher’s jobs was the main priority.<\/p>\n

“The pressure on the budget cuts is being felt across the board, and therefore just endorses our position to fight for a fair share of the budget to make sure that we can cover these costs in a fast-growing, or the fastest growing province in South African from a population point of view.”<\/p>\n
