Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has \u201cstringent conditions\u201d to minimise cheating during matric final exams.<\/p>\n

All systems are in place to ensure this year\u2019s exam period goes smoothly, said Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n

In his latest newsletter, Ramaphosa also commended the country\u2019s educators for their commitment to the class of 2024 matrics as they end their school journey.<\/p>\n

Monday marks the start of the National Senior Certificate exams with just over 880,000 candidates writing.<\/p>\n

While matric exams have run smoothly for decades, Ramaphosa says the DBE has put stringent conditions in place to minimise the potential for \u201cquestion paper leaks, fraud and cheating\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa said additional invigilators have also been appointed and some examination centres will employ surveillance cameras.<\/p>\n

He says security has been stepped up at exam venues to minimise disruptions.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa also noted how the class of 2024 entered grade 8 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and have had to receive \u201cconsiderable learning support\u201d to overcome the gaps in their learning.<\/p>\n

He again called on employers to relax the requirement of prior work experience, particularly for entry-level positions where young employees can be trained on the job.<\/p>\n
