Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has warned that fake news relating to the final exams causes unnecessary anxiety for matriculants.<\/p>\n

Officials have become aware of a video doing the rounds, in which it’s alleged that a learner at the so-called \u201cGolden Gates High School\u201d had been caught cheating during an exam.<\/p>\n

However, the school does not exist, and the video is entirely fake.<\/p>\n

<\/b>
\nEducation MEC David Maynier said despite subsequent videos explaining it’s a parody, the damage had been done.<\/p>\n

He said deliberate fake news of this kind was extremely damaging, as it falsely creates doubt in the integrity of the exam process and adds to the anxiety of matriculants.<\/p>\n

“We appeal to everyone in the Western Cape to avoid posting or sharing fake news regarding the exams. Our priority during the exam period must be the wellbeing of our matrics so that they are in the best possible headspace when they write each exam.”<\/p>\n
