Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>ANC NEC sub-committee on economic transformation head Mmamoloko Kubayi has emphasised the urgent need to eliminate illegal electricity connections.<\/p>\n

Kubayi said that load reduction is linked to illegal connections and the inadequate maintenance of electricity infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Load reduction involves cutting power to densely populated communities when municipal electrical systems become overloaded.<\/p>\n

During a media briefing on the sidelines of an ANC NEC meeting in Ekurhuleni on Saturday, Kubayi said greater focus is required to address illegal connections.<\/p>\n

“That’s why you find transformers blowing because the capacity is higher than what you are supposed to have. That is why you find municipal infrastructure cant’ carry what it\u2019s supposed to. So it’s a responsibility as well for us as citizens. But we have got to ensure than illegal connections don’t happen.”<\/p>\n
