Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Basic Education Department said that the 2024 National Senior Certificate exams have been smooth so far with no major incidents reported.<\/p>\n

More than 300 pupils in Kariega in the Eastern Cape faced challenges accessing their exam centre due to last week\u2019s heavy rains and flooding with the tests being pushed to a later date.<\/p>\n

Exams still continued in the province without issues elsewhere.<\/p>\n

More than 720,000 full-time and 150, 000 part-time candidates are writing their exams at nearly 7,000 examination centres nationwide.<\/p>\n

Department Spokesperson Terrence Khala thanked all involved, especially the SAPS, which in one instance transported stranded pupils safely in a Nyala vehicle, ensuring they could write on time.<\/p>\n

“On Monday morning at 9am, the candidates will sit for English Paper 1 (HL, FAL, SAL). Once again the examination system will be operating at full capacity as the subject written is taken by the majority of Grade 12 learners. The department urges all the candidates to continue their commitment to an examination that is free of cheating. Invigilators are also required to exercise vigilance when executing their duty.”<\/p>\n

Khala adds that the department is also calling on the public to avoid protests that could disrupt exam routes.<\/p>\n
