Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Reclaim the City has cautiously welcomed Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’ announcement about more land being identified for social housing.<\/p>\n

Hill-Lewis on Wednesday told the city council that land in Brackenfell, Wesfleur and Belhar has been earmarked for affordable housing.<\/p>\n

Public participation processes are already underway for land release at the Mowbray Golf Course, Ottery, Lansdowne and Rondebosch East.<\/p>\n

However, Reclaim the City’s Karen Hendricks prompted the city to start construction on sites near the inner-city that have been vacant since 2021.<\/p>\n

“For Reclaim The City, we once again urge the city to build affordable housing on those sites that were earmarked for affordable housing that are still just empty sites.”<\/p>\n
