Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Disgruntled taxi owners have issued an ultimatum to the City of Johannesburg, demanding a payment plan within seven days to address eight years of unpaid fees tied to the Rea Vaya bus system agreement.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, dozens of operators and owners, affiliated with the Top Six Taxi Organisation, marched to Mayor Dada Morero\u2019s office to deliver a memorandum of demands for full back payment.<\/p>\n

Taxi owners argue that the city failed to honour a 12-year contract, which promised each owner R830,000 per vehicle to cease operations.<\/p>\n

According to the operators, payments were issued only for the first four years, there they never received a dime.<\/p>\n

The memorandum outlines several key demands: a full payment plan with a precise schedule, a timely resolution for the alleged missing payments, and a sustainable framework for potentially renewing the agreement.<\/p>\n

A representative from Mayor Morero\u2019s office accepted the memorandum on his behalf, pledging a response within the requested seven days.<\/p>\n

City Spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane: \u201cThere will be an engagement with Top Six to take the process forward, as there may be a misunderstanding regarding the signed agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The marchers have now dispersed.<\/p>\n
