Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Transport Minister Barbara Creecy said it was all systems go for a productive fruit import and export season.<\/p>\n

The Port of Cape Town has been marred by long trucking queues and delays with shipping vessels waiting for weeks to offload their cargo.<\/p>\n

In winter, farmers and traders worldwide faced losing their export quality produce because of delayed logistics and slow turnaround times at the port.<\/p>\n

Broken equipment and strong winds are some of the challenges attributed for the delays experienced at the Port of Cape Town recently.<\/p>\n

And as the fruit industry gears up for a bumper summer season, Creecy said that over 70 new pieces of equipment had been acquired to help ease the load.<\/p>\n

“And this new equipment is helping us with the stacking of containers, with the loading and unloading of ships.”<\/p>\n

Creecy added that a lot of work had been done to shorten delays at the port.<\/p>\n
