{"id":7663,"date":"2021-04-03T17:16:11","date_gmt":"2021-04-03T17:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/?p=7663"},"modified":"2021-04-03T16:30:22","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T16:30:22","slug":"three-killed14-others-injured-as-bakkie-overturns-during-funeral-procession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/three-killed14-others-injured-as-bakkie-overturns-during-funeral-procession","title":{"rendered":"Three killed,14 others injured as bakkie overturns during funeral procession"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\">South-Africa<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Three women who were part of a funeral procession were killed when a bakkie they were in overturned on R40 Road near Hazyview in Mpumalanga.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen others, who were also in the bakkie, were injured and rushed to hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe has since called on motorists to obey road rules and drive cautiously following the fatal accident.<\/p>\n<p>According to department spokesperson Mmusi Moeti, the crash happened on R40 between Hazyview and Marite around 8am on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Allegations are that the accident may have occurred when the driver of the bakkie lost control of his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>It veered off the road, overturned and landed in a ditch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo people were declared dead at the scene while the third person died at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also believed that the people were part of the funeral procession from one of the farming areas when the crash happened.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but early indications show that the driver may have lost control before the vehicle overturned,\u201c Moeti said.<\/p>\n<p>He said injured people were rushed to Matikeane and Tintswalo hospitals with serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Shongwe said with increased caution, driving tragedies such as the one that happened were avoidable.<\/p>\n<p>He sent condolences to the bereaved families and wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.<\/p>\n<p><b>IOL<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa.
