Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The chairperson of Parliament\u2019s portfolio committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, Xola Nqola, has raised concerns over State institutions failing to utilise their annual budgets fully.<\/p>\n

Nqola made these remarks at the Public Protector\u2019s conference on promoting good governance in Ekurhuleni on Monday.<\/p>\n

In the 2022\/23 financial year, the government underspent its budget by nearly R16 billion, with the Department of Social Development being the largest underspender.<\/p>\n

Nqola emphasised that underspending a budget has serious consequences for the government\u2019s overall performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe approve those budgets expecting you to use those available funds. So we take serious exception when money is there, but it’s not used. The actual implication when money is not used means that services are not being delivered to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
