Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Hundreds of registered students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) awaiting accommodation are stranded outside the District Six Campus in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

The students said they have been sleeping outside the campus with their luggage since Thursday night.<\/p>\n

There’s a big police and security presence outside CPUT\u2019s District Six Campus.<\/p>\n

The contingent has been deployed to protect campus infrastructure and prevent students from protesting.<\/p>\n

CPUT\u2019s security said there’s no sign of management or staff inside the premises.<\/p>\n

Its Student Representative Council (SRC)\u2019s Lihle Mgxushuwa said all the stranded students are registered for the current academic year.<\/p>\n

“What’s happening here is students get accepted, they register, but when it comes to accommodation, they do not get accommodation. For instance, we are having these students here, these students have been here for more than three weeks.”<\/p>\n

He said more students are stranded at the other bigger CPUT campuses waiting for accommodation.<\/p>\n
