Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Joburg Water says it has injected R600 million into the commando system, which supplies a number of communities in the West of Johannesburg that have had water supply issues.<\/p>\n

Some of the areas in the region haven’t had a reliable supply of running water for close to a decade now.<\/p>\n

Many residents have taken to the streets to demonstrate against the regular outages they are forced to live with.<\/p>\n

In a media briefing on Friday, the Joburg Water managing director, Ntshavheni Mukwevho, said the commando system is in critical condition due to a lack of investment in infrastructure.<\/p>\n

“It is precisely for that reason that the City of Johannesburg is investing more than R600 million in that area. This is the area really around Brixton, area around Coronationville, West Dean and so on. Areas around Auckland Park all the way to Amerasia and Melville.”<\/p>\n
