Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged municipalities to take decisive action against corruption.<\/p>\n

He made these comments while addressing the party\u2019s national executive committee (NEC) on Saturday, which convened to assess the state of local government.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa pointed out that corruption is most prevalent within municipalities, yet there is often a lack of political will to hold officials accountable for maladministration.<\/p>\n

He has warned that public confidence in government will remain low unless decisive steps are taken.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ANC, therefore, needs to be bold in taking action to resolve the dysfunctionality and local government by dealing with this elephant in the room of corruption and malfeasance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa adds that parties must ensure their deployees in municipal councils are competent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m calling on all political parties; when they deploy candidates for local government, even though we will compete with them vigorously, to deploy people who are capable, well-skilled and knowledgeable about local government and the issues our people are facing.\u201d<\/p>\n
