Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy leader Kenny Kunene says he’s confident about his chances of winning the upcoming municipal elections following his appointment as the party’s mayoral candidate for Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

Party leader Gayton McKenzie recently announced Kunene as the face of the PA’s campaign for the city of gold during a late-night Facebook live session.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes after uncertainty over Kunene’s candidacy, following his suspension in July over alleged links to suspected underworld figure Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe.<\/p>\n

Kunene spoke to journalists about his reinstatement as the PA’s deputy leader and Johannesburg’s Transport MMC on the sidelines of a service delivery programme in Soweto on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Kunene was suspended after being found at the home of Molefe, who is currently in custody for allegedly planning the murder of Oupa John Sefoka, known to many as DJ Sumbody.<\/p>\n

Although an investigation initiated by the party cleared him of any wrongdoing, unene said the incident did not damage his public image or that of the party.<\/p>\n

“One thing about me is that I tell you the truth. I don\u2019t spin anything, and they accept that my truth has been confirmed. So there is no problem. My public image is intact.”<\/p>\n

He claims that during his three-month suspension, he discovered that many are in support of his bid to take over as Johannesburg’s mayor.<\/p>\n

“The people on the ground are asking me to stand as mayor. Young people were stopping me at corners and saying, ‘We are going to vote for you as mayor’.”<\/p>\n

Kunene is set to contest the mayoral race against the Democratic Alliance’s Helen Zille, while the African National Congress has yet to announce its candidate.<\/p>\n
