Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said he briefed President Cyril Ramaphosa about his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), and the president agreed.<\/p>\n

Mchunu made the point on Friday, despite earlier evidence from the National Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, that cast doubt on whether Ramaphosa agreed with the decision to disband the task team.<\/p>\n

Mchunu was answering questions for a second day before the police Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption, where he continued defending his decision.<\/p>\n

In his evidence before the Madlanga Commission and the Ad Hoc Committee, Masemola said President Ramaphosa did not support the decision to disband the task team.<\/p>\n

But Mchunu said he held a brief meeting with Ramaphosa, where he briefed him about his decision.<\/p>\n

“The answer in the affidavit is that I briefed the president and he agreed with the briefing I gave him.”<\/p>\n

However, African National Congress (ANC) member of Parliament (MP) Xola Nqola said previous evidence differed from Mchunu’s submission.<\/p>\n

“It is important for us to explain to the witness why the evidence leader is emphasising agreement. It’s solely because the main witness had cast doubt whether the president would have agreed with the dissolution of the Political Killings Task Team.”<\/p>\n

Mchunu maintained that the president agreed with his decision and did not object.<\/p>\n

Mchunu will return to face questions from MPs on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
