Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed concern about violations of the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, amid continued attacks on the occupied Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s appealed to the international community to make every effort to ensure the peace deal leads to Palestinian statehood and self-determination.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa on Monday delivered a public lecture in Kuala Lumpur on the occasion of receiving an honorary doctorate in international relations.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s currently on a working visit in Malaysia, where he\u2019s attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and East Asian Summit.<\/p>\n

South Africa is Malaysia\u2019s largest trading partner in Africa.<\/p>\n

At a special convocation at the Universiti Malaya on Monday, President Ramaphosa spoke of the country\u2019s ties to Malaysia, dating back to colonialism and slavery.<\/p>\n

He said that although the degree was being conferred on him, it was in recognition of an entire nation\u2019s struggle for democracy and freedom.<\/p>\n

He said that he was also accepting the award on behalf of the Malay community, who were forced against heir will to start new lives in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Thanking Malaysia for its support during the struggle, Ramaphosa also paid tribute to its solidarity with the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n

“After decades of dispossession, repression and oppression, the people of Gaza are facing genocide, as we speak.”<\/p>\n

While welcoming the return of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, Ramaphosa said the ceasefire was being undermined by assaults on Gaza and the West Bank.<\/p>\n

“We say this must stop, and it must stop immediately to give dignity to the people of Gaza.”<\/p>\n

He\u2019s again called for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders for a permanent end to hostilities.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa\u2019s remarks come as United Nations special rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, is due to deliver her latest reporton the complicity of nations in genocide in Gaza from Cape Town on Tuesday because she\u2019s banned from travelling to the United States to speak at the UN headquarters.<\/p>\n
