{"id":92295,"date":"2025-10-31T18:58:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T18:58:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/mashatile-fighting-crime-should-not-be-politicised"},"modified":"2025-10-31T18:59:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T18:59:46","slug":"mashatile-fighting-crime-should-not-be-politicised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/mashatile-fighting-crime-should-not-be-politicised","title":{"rendered":"Mashatile: Fighting crime should not be politicised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Paul Mashatile said fighting crime in the country should not be politicised.<\/p>\n<p>Mashatile, who chairs Cabinet\u2019s Justice and Crime Prevention Cluster, was answering questions in the National Assembly on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament\u2019s Ad Hoc Committee into police corruption have revealed glaring weaknesses within the South African Police Service (SAPS).<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy President moved to assure members of Parliament (MPs) that the process of ridding the force of corrupt elements has already begun.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that while political leadership is critical within the police, the lack of resources is not necessarily the problem in fighting crime, but rather the &#8220;bad apples&#8221; within its ranks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the revelations at the Madlanga Commission just show exactly how much we need to do to clean that environment of policing,\u201d Mashatile stated.<\/p>\n<p>Mashatile said trust in the police will be restored once corrupt officers are removed, adding that the process will take time. \u201cWe will not win overnight.
