Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba has moved to clarify that the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC)’s probe into him is not linked to procurement-related wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, the African National Congress (ANC)’s national executive committee (NEC) member announced on social media that he had been called to appear in court on allegations linked to state capture-related corruption.<\/p>\n

Gigaba said the allegations stem from his time as Public Enterprises minister between 2010 and 2014.<\/p>\n

The directorate did not arrest the MP, but instead met him to discuss the possibility of formal charges being laid against him.<\/p>\n

Gigaba says the IDAC’s probe relates to allegations that he received an undeserved benefit during his time in cabinet.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Gigaba says IDAC has given him the opportunity to respond fully to the claims and to provide context regarding the benefits he is accused of receiving.<\/p>\n

No indictment has been issued at this stage, and Gigaba said IDAC has not presented him with any evidence supporting the allegations.<\/p>\n

This means he has not been formally charged, and a decision is expected once he submits his response to the inquiry.<\/p>\n

For now, Gigaba retains his position on the ANC NEC as well as his seat in Parliament.<\/p>\n
