Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Democratic Alliance (DA) said the Gauteng government\u2019s efforts to ensure that Johannesburg\u2019s water and electricity supply remain secure and uninterrupted throughout the G20 Leaders\u2019 Summit is a slap in the face of many residents who are facing severe service delivery issues.<\/p>\n

The party said the promises of quick fixes are unsustainable for residents who need lasting solutions to the ongoing water and electricity outages, potholes, crime and decaying infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The province is currently running on overdrive in preparation to roll out the red carpet for G20 heads of state and other delegates later in November.<\/p>\n

The leaders\u2019 summit at the Nasrec Expo Centre in the south of Johannesburg will be the final gathering of the bloc under South Africa\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n

DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said the sudden amplification of service delivery operations ahead of the global event is also a mockery of residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWater and electricity outages have long been a source of frustration for residents across Gauteng. Potholes are as common as daybreak, while many streetlights and traffic lights have not been functional for almost a year.<\/p>\n

\u201cYet only now has the Lesufi-led administration finally woken up from its slumber and decided to act. What about the people of Gauteng, what about the people of Joburg? Don\u2019t they deserve to not be embarrassed by not getting the services they so richly deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
